Retrofitting Old Chimneys

The Bigger Picture
Getting the stovepipe right is only half the battle. You should also check your home’s envelope.
Are your windows efficient? Do you have weather-stripping on every door? Is the wall insulation intact? A sealed house holds heat better. It also makes the stove more effective. The federal ENERGY STAR program has tools to help you find leaks. Fix them.
